Late Cancellations and Missed Appointments
Our policy on non-attendance

Non-attendance and short-notice cancellations deprive other patients in need of dental care. We encourage all patients to consider this when making appointments and to please let us know with as much notice as possible if you would like to change your appointment time or cancel.

Please familiarise yourself with the below practice policies which are inline with NHS guidance and wider dental sector standards. The aim of these policies is to prevent non-attendance and not to penalise.

Definitions

Short-notice Cancellation

Cancelling an appointment within 24-hours of the appointment time.

Failure to Arrive (FTA)

Failing to attend a booked appointment without any prior notice to the practice. Turning up significantly late (10 minutes+) to an appointment may also be considered an FTA.

NHS Appointments

We will consider refusing further appointments on the NHS at our practice if:

  • you FTA or cancel with short-notice 2 consecutive appointments

  • you FTA or cancel with short-notice 3 or more appointments within your last 6 appointments or within the last 3 years whichever is the longest period.

Private Appointments

A charge will be incurred if you FTA or cancel with short-notice a private appointment. The charge given will depend on the length of the appointment as follows:

  • 15 minute appointment - £15

  • 30 minute appointment - £30

  • 45 minute appointment - £55

  • 60 minute appointment - £75

Future appointments will not be able to take place until the charge is paid.
